Best WordPress Hosting Services 2021

WordPress is a popular content management system (CMS) that powers more than 35 percent of the web, according to WordPress.org. They have over 55,000 plugins to help your website meet your standards. From creating a personal blog to an online store, their powerful features and flexibility makes them hard to beat.

Most web host providers offer some form of WordPress specific-service, and it can become overwhelming trying to choose what type of hosting you need. There are four types of hosting – Shared WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, WordPress Dedicated Server Hosting, and Managed WordPress hosting.

For new websites, I recommend to shop around for Shared WordPress hosting due to price and then upgrade to VPS hosting once you outgrow your shared plan. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can spend more money for Managed WordPress hosting, which takes control of all technical aspects of your WordPress sites. All you have to do is focus on your content and marketing.

Anywho, WordPress is simple and predictable so you can easily get started. I have listed the best WordPress web hosting services in the market today. Let’s take a look!

Questions To Ask When Choosing A WordPress Host

The term WordPress hosting just means the provider has configured things to specifically support the WordPress application and related dependencies like security.

When you throw in solid state (SSD) drives (like an iPod) and “caching” it makes things get hot and spicy.

Caching is when a portion of your site is stored in someone’s browser or your hosting providers servers

If I visit a website lots of little pieces of data are downloaded in the process. Rather than re downloading everything every time my browser will save some of the data. That is called client-side caching.

Server-side caching is when parts of my site are stored somewhere to make them more readily available upon request. Thus, speeding up the process even more. There are some nifty technologies that optimize all of this for speed.

Some additional questions to ask when choosing a host.

  • What free services does the company offer?
  • Does the provider give free SSL, Domain, or Email?
  • What kind of security do they have in place?
  • How do they rank for speed and reliability?
  • If you are in the U.S, are they? Or their data center?
  • What is the cost when the promotional monthly rate expires?
  • Should you get hosting for 1 year or 3?
  • Does the host provide a money back guarantee and for how long?
  • Does the provider conduct backups of your site?
  • What limits do they have in place and when will you reach that limit?
  • Do they store data on SSD drives? Not a deal breaker but solid-state drives are fast.
  • How long have they been around? What do others say about them?
back to menu ↑

A few tried and tested ones that I seem to always get (free) are…

Wordfence Security – Firewall & Malware Scan
This is for security. It has been downloaded millions of time and I have not had a problem with it. Wordfence will notify you (too much) about basically anything on the site that has a security impact, such as someone signing in or even plugin updates.

Yoast SEO – SEO for everyone
You knew it was coming. I sometimes feel this plugin is overrated. I mean, Google has some sharp cookies working on search algorithms and things like that. If you page is about pizza the search engine will know it.

However, Yoast SEO can really help to hold your hand and walk you through making much needed adjustments to things like readability, headings, keyword density and other aspects that definitely have an impact on your site being seen more.

Smush – Compress, Image Optimizer, Lazy Load, WebP Images
Smush optimizes pictures by making them smaller and thereby making a page load faster. This often-overlooked issue can cause drastic benefits with site speed.

The pictures are optimized without a noticeable difference in quality. We’re talking about lots of time saved and a site’s speed can have a direct impact on sales. You can also easily configure “lazy load” to make pictures load only when the user scrolls to them.

Classic Editor
Gutenberg is a new kid on the block. A new WordPress editor. The goal is to make editing your WordPress site easier but if you’re like me you don’t always welcome change. This is like jumping from XP to Vista. Or Office 2007 to Office 365. I hope someone out there is laughing. Classic Editor makes editing WordPress the same as it has been for some time.

Redirection
Here is one for the pros. If you get an old or expired site, you will want this. You can use Google Search Console or Open Site Explorer or similar tool. I recommend Search Console. Find a list of links on other sites pointing to yours. And redirect them to your homepage or resource that the visitors are searching for. I will not expand on this as it may be complicated and outside the scope of this guide.

Email Subscribers & Newsletters
For years, I did not collect emails. Email Subscribers is a complete newsletter plugin that lets you collect emails and send automated new blog post notification emails.

Google Analytics Dashboard by MonsterInsights
This plugin gives you a Google Analytics dashboard on your WordPress admin panel. Yes, it takes a little figuring out but it’s one of the most user-friendly plugins I have come across. The challenge is only in signing up for Google Search Console or Analytics.

WP Statistics
I recommend this plugin if you’re having a hard time with other analytics reporting tools. It’s a simple tool to know your website statistics such as pageviews and where they’re coming from. This is a great option if you need information about your visitors and to grow your traffic!

How To Evaluate Your WordPress Hosting Needs

When choosing a WordPress host, there five important factors that you need to consider:

  1. Ease of Use – How easily you can navigate around the their cPanel? Is it easy to install WordPress?
  2. Availability & Uptime – How reliable is their web servers? Will their servers have any downtime?
  3. Speed & Performance – How fast will my website be? Will my page-speed be under 2 seconds?
  4. Website Security – How secure my website will be? Do they offer web security applications to prevent spams and hackers?
  5. Customer Support – How good is their customer support? Do they offer phone support, live chat, or both?

It may seem overwhelming to find the right WordPress hosting service for your business, but you have to prioritize what’s important for you.
